As we emerge from the restrictions imposed on us over the last 2 years, why not try something new? Perhaps you’d like to take up yoga, maybe join the Craft Group or sample some of the Wellbeing Sessions. Perhaps you’d rather take up some voluntary work. Whatever your interests are there’s probably a Cornerstones activity that would suit you.
Activities for May include:
Friday Night is Music Night – The last zoom concert in the present series will be on Friday, 6th May at 7.0pm. Zoom codes will be circulated shortly. We would be grateful if you could make the time and date of the concert as widely known as you can among your family and friends. Please note, however, that because of copyright issues we are not
allowed to advertise on social media. The best way to pass on the code is probably by e-mail.
Memory Lane Craft Group – From Friday, 20th May, the Craft Group will be extending their mornings on the third Friday of every month. For a session from 10.00am – 1.00pm the charge will be £3, while the charge for 10.00am – 3.00pm will be £5.
Free Food Safety Course – This course will be held on Monday, 23rd May from 10.00am – 4.00pm. To be eligible for this FREE training you must be 19+, live in County Durham and be retired/volunteering or unemployed. To book your place please register with the Church Office.
Wellbeing Courses – Due to the popularity of the Wellbeing Taster Sessions we have arranged for a wider variety of courses to be held over the next year and these courses began on Saturday, 23rd April. They will include sessions on crafting, meditation and self-development. The courses are being funded by a grant of £10,000 from the National Lottery and a grant of £3,000 from the Sir James Knott Trust. For more information please call at the Church Office.
We have many vacancies for Volunteers at Cornerstones. Among other things we’d like to relaunch the popular Thursday Lunches and need teams of volunteers to help cook the food and serve the meals. It would also be good if we could reinstate the Friday and Saturday Bric a Brac Stall. This used to be tremendously popular and was a very useful contact with the community as well as a fundraiser for our Church. We need volunteers to join a rota to help set out the stall, sell the donated items, and then clear away afterwards. If you think that you could help please contact the Church Office.
The Methodist Church has issued a prayer to help us pray for the situation in Ukraine. Perhaps this would help you in your private prayers:
We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia; for their countries and their leaders. We pray for
all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in
all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our
swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son. Lord have mercy. Amen
